Street improvement projects underway

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Contractors have until Oct. 26 to complete the 2011 street improvements project on the west side of the Village after work began Sept. 7.

“We’ll do our best to alert residents as to when they can expect the most intensive work [on the streets] to take place,” said Village Administrator Heather Kimmons. She said “breaking news” on the work schedules will be available to residents on the Village’s website, www. forsythvillage.us, and the Village’s Facebook page.

New and improved streets are planned for Christopher Drive and Spyglass Boulevard, Spyglass Court and Schroll Court in the Stevens Point subdivision.

“It’s a bigger job than just doing an asphalt overlay,” Kimmons said of the work, which entails several steps to process street pavements into a soil-cement based course. Some curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be reconstructed, and curb inlets repaired. An asphalt overlay on the Village Hall parking lot is part of the project as well. Kimmons has instructed contractors that the subdivision street work is to be given priority over the work on the Village Hall parking lot.

Currently, work is underway on the Village’s east side involving another capital project to construct a storm sewer system to solve a drainage issue at the Ruehl/Elwood streets intersection. That work began at the end of August and is expected to be completed within 30 calendar days, according to Kimmons.

“Both projects got a later start … we would like to have completed the work this summer before school began, but it didn’t work out that way,” she said. Kimmons said she intends to be vigilant and to enforce the construction timelines set with the contractors. She noted, however, that weather conditions may be a factor relative to the completion dates for both projects.
