Tourism dollars spent

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Forsyth is promoting itself by using hotel/motel tourism monies to buy Internet advertising in the Chicago and St. Louis areas.

Trustees recently endorsed the extension of a three-month marketing program with the Herald & Review newspaper and Yahoo Internet browser. The goal is to interest visitors who might travel to this area for overnight stays. At this time of year, the ads will focus on antiques and the nearby Lincoln sites.

Earlier Internet marketing efforts concentrated on golf packages when the Economic Development Committee decided to ""piggyback on the Decatur Area Convention & Visitors Bureau advertising,"" said Mayor Hap Gilbert as committee chair. He added: ""We're happy with the results, and the Herald & Review considers them outstanding results with clicks and impressions."" Trustees approved the latest advertising at a cost not to exceed $2,400.
