Tree lighting starts the season right, bright

Thursday, December 14, 2017

The Village’s annual Christmas tree lighting event was a big success, with more than 500 people in attendance, according to its principal organizer, Shauna Bohlmann, event coordinator for the Village.

“This year’s event had the most people ever,” Bohlmann said of the popular occasion, now in its third year.

The Millikin Children’s Choir and the choirs from Maroa-Forsyth Middle School and Maroa-Forsyth High School all performed. Mayor Marilyn Johnson led the countdown and presentation of the lighted Christmas tree.

Village Trustees were on hand to join the residents they represent in a festive evening. Trustee Kerstin Trachtenberg was joined by Nina Wright in helping with hot cocoa. The Parker Family — JR, Sherry, Logan and Olivia — along with Ronda Bundy and Kim Miller also helped serve up some cocoa. Trustee David Wendt helped hand out ornaments to kids.

Thanks to Chris Weisenborn and Christine Smith for their work with coordinating their choirs, and special thanks to Dave Dunn for stringing the lights.

Public Works staffers Larry Coloni and John Rhoades were onsite for additional support to keep things running smoothly.

Bohlmann noted a Facebook post by community member Julia Livingston that perfectly captured the event:

“Christmas fun in Forsyth tonight! The music was beautiful, the Santa jolly, the sleigh ride swift, and the hot cocoa piping! #holidayfun #christmas2017”
