Trustees might join meetings while on the road

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Among the agenda items scheduled for the Oct. 17 Board meeting is a discussion about the possibility of allowing absent Board members to participate in trustee meetings electronically.

“The law does allow remote attendance for specified reasons, including being out of town on work-related business,” said Village Administrator Heather Kimmons. “This does not apply to vacations, however.”

Kimmons said that if is implemented by the Board, a quorum of trustees must still be physically present at a meeting.

The idea rose to a priority following a trustee’s desire to participate in upcoming Board discussions to set the tax levy despite his out-of-town business commitments

Kimmons also expressed a longterm goal of broadcasting Village Board meetings through cable or live streaming on the Internet.
