Update on Ameren’s electric and natural gas meter switch

Thursday, December 25, 2014

The village has heard back from Ameren and from an officer with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office regarding the replacement of electric and natural gas meters for all Ameren customers in Macon County. The village had previously been notified that residents could expect workers to be in the area doing the work in the weeks ahead during December and January. It turns out the information provided was incorrect.

Lt. Jamie Belcher with the sheriff’s office got back in touch to say that his office had been updated by Ameren, and that meter-replacement work will actually begin in the southern part of Macon County in the communities of Macon, Blue Mound and Walker. Belcher noted that anyone with questions should call Ameren at (800) 755-5000.

He also cautioned that since Forsyth isn’t on the upcoming schedule, if anyone should claim they are changing out a meter for Ameren, contact Ameren directly or call the sheriff’s department. Belcher said the department would send a deputy out to investigate any person making such a claim.

The village also received word from a local resident who had spoken directly to Ameren and had also been told that the work will be done in the southern part of the county for now. The same resident also reported that Ameren told him that work to replace meters in Forsyth could potentially get started as late as 2016. 
