Village adds public nuisance noise section to ordinance

Thursday, July 14, 2011

On July 5, trustees voted to expand existing nuisance ordinances to include a section on “public nuisance noise.” Exceptions are regularlyscheduled community events at parks and general construction and maintenance activities conducted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Guidelines for the section will be folded into an amended nuisance ordinance. The ordinance allows authorities to issue citations if warnings are ignored. Village Administrator Heather Kimmons said the goal is to provide something workable but not overly aggressive.

The issue surfaced last month when a westside homeowner complained about neighboring poolside parties with blaring music. “We all need to apply a measure of reason ... there are occasionally extreme situations, and that’s what the ordinance is designed to guard against,” Kimmons said.
