Village Hall to get backup generator

Thursday, November 13, 2014

At the Oct. 20 board meeting, Public Works Director Larry Coloni recommended purchasing an electric generator to be used as a source of backup power in the case of a power failure at Village Hall.

Trustee Larry Reed asked if a generator would be capable of running the whole building.

“Yes,” Coloni said. “It’s sized to run the whole building. We’ve never had (a generator), but when you need it you need it.”
Coloni pointed out that loss of power means no phones and no computers.

Trustee Dave Wendt asked if it runs on natural gas, to which Coloni replied that it does.

Coloni noted in a memo that a line item in the administrative department in the current budget calls for a purchase of a generator in the amount of $35,000. Coloni got three bids, all of which were substantially below the budgeted amount.
Basset’s Mechanical in Mount Pulaski came in with a bid of $13,125. Altorfer, Inc. in Springfield had a bid of $22,991. Cummins Crosspoint of Normal quoted a bid of $12,525.

Coloni recommended the lowest bid for a 35 kW Cummins Power Generator. The motion carried.
