Village Searches for Additional Well

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Trustees are prepared to dip into budgeted funds to explore the possible acquisition of an additional well site to service the Village and ensure its future water supply. At the June 18 Board meeting, trustees authorized Village Administrator Mike Miller to work with Village Engineer Chuck Hunsinger to secure an option with the landowner of a potential well site located five miles north of Forsyth before bringing it back to the Board for formal approval. The Village was previously granted a temporary easement on the site.

Hunsinger recommended a soil boring to verify the land’s viability and described the site as being relatively close to the existing water transmission line to the Village’s water treatment plant.

Public Works Director Larry Coloni said it took five years to find a suitable location for Forsyth’s newest well, which became operational in 2005. The Village has three additional wells in service at this time. “Other wells you have are 23 years old,” Hunsinger told trustees at their May 7 meeting. He said Well No. 4 and Well No. 5 currently pump between 300 to 600 gallons a minute compared to Well No. 6, which is 250 feet deep and pumps 1,000 gallons a minute.
