Village sponsors Bassmaster college fishing tournament

Friday, April 15, 2016

Event will be broadcast on ESPNU

The 2016 Carhartt College Midwestern Regional fishing tournament is coming to the area in June and bringing with it 120 competitors. The Village of Forsyth is a main sponsor, putting up $10,000 in hotel/motel funds to be the preferred host city for hotels and restaurants for competitors and visitors.

The event also provides an opportunity for the village to get some national exposure as all three days of competition will air tape-delayed on ESPNU. The competition takes place June 2-4 on Clinton Lake.

Trustees approved the host agreement at the April 4 board meeting.

“The Village of Forsyth is excited to host the 2016 Bassmaster High School Midwestern Open. These events promise to be a great opportunity to showcase the great fishing opportunities that Central Illinois and the entire state of Illinois have to offer,” Village Administrator David Strohl told Bassmaster.com.

The tournament is unique because there is a portion of the event dedicated to high school anglers. The High School Open, also held at Clinton Lake, is June 5. There are only three regional high school tournaments for all of 2016.

Trustee David Wendt has been the point person for the village. Efforts, he said, are being made to set up a tournament central location at Hickory Point Mall.
