Village to display patriotic colors through summer

American flags will fly through Labor Day

Earlier this year residents were greeted by some additional colors around the Village, in addition to those associated with springtime in the Midwest.

These proud colors — red, white and blue — can be seen in the 71 American flags that hang from light poles in parts of the Village.

Trustee Jim Peck was instrumental in getting the American flags in place in time for Memorial Day. A motorcycle enthusiast, Peck always liked the look of Old Glory on display in communities as he traveled around.

“Riding through about any small town in Illinois you see flags everywhere,” Peck said. “I thought Forsyth is as patriotic a town as anywhere.”

In April, trustees approved an agreement with Ameren Illinois to allow the Village to hang American flags from the company’s light poles. The flags are mounted on poles on U.S. Route 51, Weaver Road, Elwood Street, and Ruehl Street.

Peck is pretty happy with how things turned out.

“I am so grateful for the men and women who have served or are serving,” he said. “I just thought we need to do this to show our thanks.”

The American flags will stay in place through Labor Day.
