Volunteers drive the LPGA Decatur-Forsyth Classic

Slots available, even for non-golfers

No golf tournament has a chance for success without volunteers. The Decatur-Forsyth Classic, the longest running stop on the Symetra LPGA Tour, is no different.

For 32 successful years, the tournament has thrived due in large part to the generosity of its volunteers. There are a number of ways that you can contribute to that tradition by volunteering for this year’s tournament, to be held Aug. 12-14, at Hickory Point Golf Course.

To volunteer, you don’t even need to be a golfer. The following is a list of areas where you could have fun while helping out an important and popular local event. Remember, no golf knowledge required to volunteer for these positions.

Volunteer Registration: Checks in volunteers.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 12 volunteer slots to fill, with times beginning at 6:45 and11:30 a.m.

Marshal: Holds quiet sign at various locations – Tees 1 and 10, Greens 9 and 18, and in the Championship Pavilion.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 32 volunteer slots to fill, with times beginning at 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 pm. and 2:30 p.m.

Walking Marshal: Walks 18 holes with the leaders holding quiet sign.

Sunday – 6 volunteer slots with times beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Scoreboard and Leaderboards: Posts players’ scores at Main Scoreboard and at Leader Boards on Holes 9, 15 and 18.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 40 volunteer slots to fill, with times beginning at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., noon, 1:15 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.

Scoring Verification: Verifies players’ information at Holes 9 and 18.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 18 volunteer slots, with times beginning at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m.

9-Hole Scoring: Retrieves players’ scores from clubhouse and posts on scoreboard.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 5 volunteer slots, with time beginning at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Scoring Runner: Takes players’ score cards from verification tents to Main Scoreboard and Tour Office.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 5 volunteer slots, with time beginning 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m.

Driving Distance Measurement: Walks to players’ ball, measures and records distance on Holes 11 and 12.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 10 volunteer slots to fill, with times beginning at 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 12:50 p.m.

VIP Lunch Check In: Checks pass requirements for access.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 3 volunteer slots to fill from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Golf and course knowledge, plus a valid driver’s license required for the following positions:

Cart Driver Scorers: Keeps unofficial players’ scores and records statistics. Reports scores after every hole via two-way radio.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 123 volunteer slots to fill, with times beginning at 7:30 a.m. and 10-minute increments thereafter; 12:20 p.m. and 10-minute increments thereafter.

Media Escort: Escorts media around course via golf cart without disturbing players.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 6 volunteer slots to fill, with times beginning at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
